After working together on their master bathroom remodel, Lin and Mark hired Room Fu to makeover their living room. They just had a few requests: Use an existing red abstract painting as inspiration, help them select a rug from Kilimania, and get rid of their oversized brown leather sectional, a.k.a., “the cow.” Our goal was to fill the room with the vibrancy so evident in their personalities–a trait their living room’s former incarnation was sadly lacking.

A new spaceplan, featuring furniture more suited in scale to the space, creates a more open feeling in the room. Color is the real star of the show, though. A palette including purple, orange, navy, red, and apple green–sounds crazy, but it just works.

A pair of orange leopard chairs with modern pizzazz check an item off of Mark’s requirement list. He was dying to incorporate animal print into the space! A luscious pair of lumbar pillows in navy and white are a complementary pop against the orange.

A carved wood side table speaks to Mark and Linda’s penchant for world travel.

A plush, velvet barrel chair in saturated orange, and a navy and white Ikat pouf create a perfect reading spot for Linda.

The apple green vinyl (yes, vinyl!) ottoman from Iron Thread Design provides a stylish place to put your feet up. Featuring hairpin legs and a unique smattering of buttons, it adds another element of fun to this modern living room. We helped Linda and Mark select a rug from Kilimania, a small carpet import business begun by fellow Austinite Carla Petievich to generate revenue for the expansion of girls’ secondary education in Pakistan. You can find more information on the charity organization Carla co-founded to support this cause—the Hoshyar Foundation—by visiting www.hoshyar.org

A blue tray and colorful books are used to style the gargantuan (48″ square) ottoman.

The couple’s living room looks out on nothing but beautiful trees.

Painterly pillows in tangerine orange, violet and fuchsia add punch to the purple sofa. A navy and white lumbar pillow ties to the other navy and white accessories in the room.

A petite pottery pitcher comes out of the cupboard to hold hot pink gerbera daisies.

The couple’s existing books and accessories get a new backdrop in apple green, and a fresh look with professional styling.

BONUS: Mark and Linda’s new living room is kitty-approved! Maudie and Birdie just love it.
