We’re so excited to share pictures of Guest Room Giveaway winner Neesha D.’s transformed guest bedroom! We are really excited about how this makeover turned out, due in large part to the amazing products and services donated by Austin businesses to create this fantastic space.

Before

Neesha and husband Jeff have a home full of soft blues and greens, but they tried to depart from that for a little variety in their guest bedroom and were disappointed with the outcome of their golden yellow paint choice. They were hoping to return to their favored green/blue palette with this makeover, so that the guest room would feel more unified with the rest of the house.

Everything started with the bedding. Considering Neesha’s request for natural greens or blues, we began our design plan at Bolt Fabrics, where we selected turquoise chevron fabric for the custom duvet. Many thanks to Bolt Fabrics for providing thirteen yards of this gorgeous stuff, and to Sewing by Norma, who did a beautiful job of creating the bedding!

Our next stop was to design some custom curtains from Lush Livings. We fell in love with this beautiful Greek key fabric and threw in a hot pink strip on each panel, to take what might otherwise be a trendy color palette into a more personalized direction. Thanks to My Austin Handyman for installing the curtain rods!

Art is such a personal experience, so we asked Neesha to pick out several of her favorites from Austin artist Judy Paul‘s prints. Of the six Neesha was ga-ga for, we selected Judy’s piece, “1 Million Flowers,” to go into the room. Judy gave us a wonderful 30″x30″ print, and it looks so gorgeous in the space!

We turned into design nerds when we scored a George Nelson wall sconce for the room, thanks to Lights Fantastic! My Austin Handyman graciously installed this as well.

And this gorgeous lamp—also from Lights Fantastic–is stunning on the desk.

At this point, we were able to nail down the paint treatment for the room. We fulfilled Neesha’s wish for both blue and green paint–painting the walls a soft, apple green, and the ceiling a gorgeous shade of teal. To bring the ultra-high ceiling down, we wrapped the ceiling color onto the tops of the walls and added a metallic gold stripe between the green and teal. Escobedo Painting made this design detail look effortless and the result is cozy and inviting. After the paint was up, Claire and I both had such an urge to have them come repaint all of our ceilings!

The hot pink ikat and green trellis print on pillows sewn by Etsy seller creativeladys compliment the other fabric patterns on the bed.

The couple’s existing vintage Austin map looks great over what is now a colorful, yet serene bed.

Neesha asked us to incorporate some decorative paper she’d brought back from India into the space. We worked a little magic on her Ikea desk, covering the drawer fronts with three patterns that inspired the room’s design.

We painted three Ikea wall shelves gold and My Austin Handyman installed them in a vertical column beside the bed for us, to create a small-scale, inexpensive, modern nightstand.

We added a Jonathan Adler-esque white vase and a hot pink Cynthia Rowley frame (sporting a photo of Neesha and Jeff’s adorable twins, Eli and Norah) to accessorize the desk.

To finish things off, Claire nabbed a shawl from Neesha, which happened to coordinate beautifully with the design of the room. Neesha said that this was a testament to how much the room reflected her personal style–because the shawl was one of her favorite things. What a wonderful compliment! Her existing desk chair also works perfectly.

Neesha also went on to say that, had she been in on the selection process, she probably would have vetoed several elements in the space, because she would not have been capable of visualizing how everything would work together. She was incredibly happy with the result, and spent some quiet time in the room after we left and enjoyed every minute of it!

Congratulations to Neesha and Jeff, and big thanks to all of our Guest Room Giveaway sponsors, including  Suzi Q. Varin of Q Weddings, who captured this makeover so beautifully!
