I don’t normally peruse the PB Kids catalog, and I loathe their website. The navigation is more exasperating than IKEA’s. I don’t know why we can’t just have the same “rugs, windows, bedding” nav bar at the top of the page like every other home decorating website. Instead, they have everything grouped by collection, forcing you to look at ten different collections before you find the curtain/lamp/dresser of your choice. Blast!

My other issue with PBK is most everything is overpriced and gingham’d out to the hilt. But the most recent catalog begged to be looked at before hitting the recycling bin. Maybe it was the fantastical tree growing out of the middle of the playroom on the cover that did me in. I don’t know anyone with such a playroom, but dangit to hell if that didn’t make me curious.

Amongst the scary price tags were several things that caught my attention. Like this mod-looking rug with surprise monkey faces mixed in with the pebble shapes. I’m not big on theme rugs at these prices, but I dig this monkey rug. It ought to come in other colors besides blue…

This funky accordion pendant light might be featured in a kids’ decor catalog, but it would be superfun over an industrial-styled kitchen island or breakfast table as well:

Accordion Hanging Light, $159.

I would never in a million years recommend spending two Benjamins on a bulletin board for your kiddo, but this is one idea that would be easy to DIY. Find an old dresser mirror, take the glass out, replace it with cork and voila!

Emma Pinboard, $159.99 on sale (reg. $199).

Love this mirror–would look gorgeous in most any bathroom!

Speaking of bathrooms (and I’m definitely not suggesting the above mirror and this curtain are a match made in heaven), I’m a sucker for this Dr. Seuss shower curtain in a kid’s bath:

Dr. Seuss Shower Curtain, $47 on sale (reg. $59.50).

I’m also a fan of the coordinating bathroom accessories–so simple, so mod:

Primary Counter Accessories, $7-$31 on sale (reg. $9-$39).

If you or your tots are into Dr. Seuss, you won’t want to miss an upcoming special gallery exhibit at Art on 5th (March 1st-31st) to coincide with the premier of The Lorax.

On a personal note, I would like to thank Pottery Barn and the food stylist who thought these two-tone designer sandwiches were such a hot idea.  (Lunch Bunch Sandwich Cutters, $15.)

Thanks for upping the ante on Mom Guilt, Pottery Barn!  Compared to this sandwich artistry, I’m just chucking crap in a bag every day. I know very few parents who have the time or inclination to get this creative during their morning routine. Punching shapes out of two breads and piecing the negative space of one bread color with the positive space of the other bread color? At 6:45 am, are you kidding me?

It’s supercute and all, but if I were captioning it, I’d say, “Don’t try this at home.”
