The “J” in J Allen obviously stands for “Jane of all trades.”  J’s a seasoned interior designer from Chevy Chase, Maryland who can do everything from design to construction to upholstery.  Let’s check out her work:

Tasteful.

Again, tasteful…but I’m kind of bored.

Feels cold and wildly impersonal.  I know it’s not a personal space, but I don’t find this inviting.  Also?  Boring.

We finally have a shot of personality.  The way the club chairs are half-on-half-off the rug feels icky to me and I’m not digging the racetrack rug around the dining table…but at least there’s some color in the room.

Pretty.  A lot of tschotskes, but pretty.

I like the bedding design a lot, but forgive me if I still get skeeved by a wall mural.

Fugly. If I were J Allen, I would edit this out of my portfolio.

J ALLEN ON A BUMPER STICKER: I don’t see a lot of imagination here, so I’ll peg J to head home early on in the competition.  Upholstery skills will only take you so far if you don’t have the creativity to go along with it.

Coming soon: We’ll check out the work of Chicago finalist Karl Sponholtz!
