We’re wrapping up this year’s Design Star Season 6 cast critique with our last finalist, New Jersey designer Tyler Wisler.  Between his scarf, his stance, the sneakers and the jeans, I’m feeling like it’s Michael Moeller all over again.  The fact that his bio says he doesn’t hold back with clients if he disagrees with a design decision pretty much confirms it for me.  Will he be this season’s diva, or will his portfolio win me over?  Let’s see…

With so much satin and shiny going on, this room feels just a knotch below Bobby Trendy.

It was smart strategy to feature his cute kiddo in this shot.  Love the window treatments peeking out of the corner.

While the bed looks comfortable, the schlumpy bedskirt and the striped chair ruin it for me.

Dude. Seriously hire a better photographer.  This room looks like it has a LOT of potential, but we can’t see very much of it because the camera is focused on boring French doors when what I really want to see is to the right and left of the frame.  I have always adored the pendants that are hanging over the superorange Eames lounger–that would’ve been a great shot right there.  Then give me one hit of the bed’s backdrop with the ummm…pigdog? …at the foot of the bed and I would probably be a happy camper.

Very Traditional Home.

It’s a great looking chair, for sure, and I like it with the ebonized tree stump, but other than that, this photo says, “in progress,” not ‘finished.”

Yikes.  Look at alllll the shiny.

Absolutely love this…the art, the L-shaped supercool console table.  This entry’s a big hit with me.

Although I totally dig the coffee table, it’s dwarfed by the the giant green sectional.  This room also has the stank of retirement home on it.

I applaud the red chairs, the mid-century bench, the ottomans under the console and all, but the state of the fireplace has me feeling like this is where someone’s stashed the hostages.

This bed looks like it’s hugging the mattress!  The view out the windows looks so picturesque, I can see why he didn’t go too crazy in here.  This bedroom’s clean and classically tailored.

Very…party of one.  While I’m a fan of “less is more,” this just looks like…less.  This bedroom could be a halfway house for the OCD-afflicted dude I saw recently on Obsessed, who didn’t sleep on his bed because he didn’t want to muss the sheets.

TYLER WISLER ON A BUMPER STICKER: I don’t see shiny-shiny and hyper-minimalism translating into a TV show, do you?  My gut tells me it’ll be Tyler who’ll be the one to bring a lot of personal drama into the mix, so I’m not seeing him under the confetti come the finale.

The sixth season of Design Star premiers on HGTV tonight, folks. So set your DVRs for 8pm CST and check back Tuesday for my first episode critique!
