So you’ve seen Faye and Jason’s striped wall in the family room I’ve designed for them…now some of their furniture has been made over as well.  And it’s a good thing these pieces are finally done too, because the anticipation of seeing them made over in all their glory was seriously keeping me awake nights.  That’s how excited I was about it.

My name is Robin, and I’m a design dork.

But seriously, how could I sleep knowing these cane chairs were going to go from this:

Everything started with this amazing fabric I fell in love with.  Painting the wood and cane frame a teal color gave these chairs the sophisticated funkiness Faye and Jason were going for.

And get a load of their dining furniture redo:

I had the upholsterer fill in all of the chair backs so we could get this great graphic punch with the fabric, and gave the wood a black lacquer finish for a modern zing.  The dining table got a makeover as well, with a refinished natural top and black lacquer skirt and legs.

I love these projects that allow me to redo existing furniture for a client.  Reusing existing furniture is great for the environment and since these pieces were passed down through the family, there’s also a sentimental quality that I’m always a sucker for.  It’s an excellent way to create a customized space and it taps into my drug of choice: a good transformation.  All of these pieces originally belonged to Jason’s grandmother.  Now they belong to Faye and Jason.
