We still have a few 1-hour mini-makeover winners to do/showcase from our recent Guest Room Giveaway contest. Last week we converged on Michelle M.’s house and took on the design of her guest bedroom. Here’s how we transformed the space…

First, we reconfigured the furniture arrangement so that the bed wasn’t against the window. By doing this, the bed has its own focal point and the windows are their own architectural feature–they’re not both fighting for the same presence.

The art above the bed is hung lower, to better unite it with the bed. Additional art and framed photos dress the side table, and we take advantage of the reversible comforter on the bed by flipping it over to reveal a different fabric pattern. Now we have a nice mix of stripes on the bedskirt, florals on the pillow shams, and a swirly print on the comforter. Again, each element gets a little bit of attention and it’s not all mushing together.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, we find a throw to replace the sleeping bag that had been thrown over the rocking chair, and we style the dresser using books and a tea set found elsewhere in the home.

The result is a space that is ready to welcome Thanksgiving visitors!

Coming soon: We’ll begin our Guest Room Giveaway winner’s guest bedroom makeover this Wednesday and hope to reveal the final look by the end of next week! Wish we could give you sneak peeks along the way, but we have to keep Neesha–our winner–in the dark, so it’ll be a nice surprise at the end.
