Longtime readers know that Design Star Season 3 runner-up Matt Locke and I go waaaay back. But our history doesn’t make me biased toward his talent and creative abilities–his talent and creative abilities are simply a matter of fact. And they loom large.

As both a designer and an artist, Matt uses fine woods and unique materials to create beautiful art and interiors. But what also blows me away about him is the way he expresses himself as an artist on Facebook. Matt is a prolific Facebooker, but before that makes your nose go all crinkly, you won’t see him post about what he had for breakfast or any of that hogwash. He posts three things consistently: poster-like images using a compelling piece of photography and an interesting fact set in striking text, beautiful photographic essays using cropped images of what he spies around town that are stunning, and arresting vintage portraits he finds I-don’t-know-where. He’s really turned Facebook into a gallery of sorts, and it’s one I always enjoy visiting.

Here are some of his greatest hits:

We hear so much about Hollywood body ideals so I did a quick visual survey of famous screen sirens since the 1920s. The type looks the same: a slightly underweight fertility goddess.

MATT: In my search for a unifying style and aesthetic for the NYC Subway piece, one I'll be known for, I'm studying the work of artists and photographers whose styles are famously recognizable. Here are three of my favorites.
