I met my friend Kathryn down in the West End last night to do a bit of gallery hopping, sans kiddos.

6:30 p.m. We start things off at the Wally Workman gallery, because we’d never been there before. Take the Mona Lisa and add a hint of Dutch Masters but with a slightly modern twist, and that’s my perception of Fatima Ronquillo’s work on display in two of the rooms downstairs. Loved it.

7:00 p.m. Hemmed and hawed over where to go next, because like a dork, I forgot to bring the list of participating galleries with me. Kathryn’s off the hook because First Thursday was my idea.

7:15 p.m. The Russell Collection. I’d like to meet the people who would drop a few $K onMichael Goddard’s work. Then after I meet them, I would like to smack them for spending so much money on total crap. Although I can respect that some of the brushwork is amazingly realistic, overall there’s nothing that doesn’t reek of ye olde velvet paintings, available by the side of the road for what…25 bucks? I feel bad for the gallery staff who are compelled to laud his work, and maintain a straight face all the while.

7:45 p.m. Lotus Gallery. *cricket, cricket*

8:00 p.m. Rounders Pizza, for $2 drafts and fabulous white pizza with fresh basil, feta, and Italian sausage. A work of art itself!
