Red Chair Market Designer Tag Sale vendor Jenny Peterson had a booth next to mine and this could not have made me happier. Jenny was promoting her new book, Indoor Plant Decor, and sold tiny succulents and air plants in the cutest arrangements. I bought a mod Christmas ornament planter for our tree this year, and Phoebe begged me for an itty-bitty succulent in a wine cork turned fridge magnet. But what really rocked my world were the sand painting style planters she created by layering colored sand inside a glass bud vase, with a small plant at the top. The layers of color created a striped effect–so simple and so charming. Regretfully, I didn’t get a pic of those.
Indoor Plant Decor is full of easy-going tips for incorporating plants into your home’s interior. If you’re like me and have a brown thumb, don’t fret–air plants and succulents are all the rage for a reason. So hard to kill! So easy to maintain! Jenny suggests a misting once a week or so. This sounds like a great weekly chore for Phoebe. But Jenny has lots of other fun ideas for indoor plants in the book:
Aside from co-authoring this book with Kylee Baumle, Jenny is a landscape designer and exudes both fun and calm. If I were embarking on a landscaping project, she’d be my first call. Check out her website for more details.
Today, we’re giving away a copy of Indoor Plant Decor, and all you have to do to enter is to leave a comment below and tell us what your record is for sustaining a houseplant. (Mine is almost three years and counting–a big achievement for me!)
Thank you so much, Robin! I can’t wait to see who the winner is–and I hope they enjoy the book as much as Kylee and I enjoyed writing it!
Love some of these ideas — especially the mounted canning jars. So simple and pretty! I have one potted ivy that has survived my “care-taking” for about 18 years. I perceive them as nearly impossible to kill, since every other plant I’ve ever owned has died, eventually, and usually sooner, rather than later! I was just looking at Jenny’s blog, and all the other gardeners’ picks for the year — some of them are just beautiful! Inspiring thoughts for next spring!
I had one that I kept alive for 12 years….then accidentally left it behind in the subsequent divorce. I heard it died shortly after I moved out 🙁
The book looks fab! Personally I do much better with outdoor plants than indoor plants, but I have managed to keep some indoor plants alive for 5ish years.
[…] tome–just click here to enter. And for a second chance, mosey (virtually) on over to Room Fu’s design blog. Check out Robin’s take on indoor plant decor and enter to win there […]
Not entering to win the book, since I’m the co-author, but wanted to thank you for doing the giveaway and helping promote it!
Our pleasure, Kylee! I must admit I didn’t realize Jenny had a co-author, but there you are plain as day on the cover! Apologies for not giving credit where credit is due–I’ve updated the text above to reflect BOTH authors of this supercool book 🙂
