When we thought about all that we would need to trick out someone’s guest bedroom decor, one of the first things that came to mind was art. When a client asks for recommendations on local artists–especially those clients who are relocating to Austin and want to get connected to local art, Judy Paul is always at the top of my list. Her distinctive work appeals to many different tastes and she’s so prolific, you’re bound to come across many pieces you’d go crazy for, no matter what type of art or subject matter you’re drawn to. But what I also appreciate about Judy’s work is that a lot of it projects AUSTIN in a way that never comes across as cheesy. There’s a lot of Austin-centric art out there that looks like it was created to sell to tourists as souvenirs and that’s sort of a turnoff to me. There are a few artists who get it right, and Judy is one of them.

Parents of budding artists in Austin will also want to check out Judy’s art club for your kiddos. Held after school, the Blue J Art Club offers kids aged K-6 the opportunity to get hands-on experience with all sorts art like mixed media, screen printing, spray painting, collage, painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. I want to go!
