Karl’s last name demands a European accent. Won’t we be disappointed if he comes on the scene with some WASPy voice?!
This Chicago architect tends to work with more traditional clients but identifies on a personal level with more of an “ultra-modern” aesthetic. Let’s see what his portfolio looks like:
Since you can’t really tell the difference between the original part of the house and the addition, I suppose it looks pretty good. Too bad he didn’t snag a photo when the landscaping was fresh.
Pretty!
I like a good seamless bookcase. Or two.
Beautiful.
Nice.
Karl calls his design of this kitchen “dreamy.” I’m inclined to agree. I’d be scared to death to cook Italian food in this pristine kitchen, but it’s pretty.
Zzzzz.
The architectural design of this room is gorgeous. The furniture? Not my thang.
Gorgeous.
I like the way the TV is integrated into the fireplace surround, assuming that the frame around it is actually a door that allows access to the TV in the event that it needs servicing for any reason.
Nice.
Gorgeous.
I’ve never met a swag curtain I didn’t loathe, but other than that, this is pretty nice for a traditional kitchen.
Karl’s clients are obviously in great hands. Those custom-designed doors hurt me, they’re so gorgeous.
Love the details on the fireplace.
I just don’t like this style of house, so it’s hard to come up with something interesting to say here.
KARL SPONHOLTZ ON A BUMPER STICKER: Karl definitely has talent and an amazing eye for detail. If he can handle the time constraints of this kind of competition, and if his obvious perfectionism doesn’t cause him to blow a gasket, I think he’ll do fairly well. I’m definitely intrigued to see what he does.
Coming soon: Finalist Kellie Clements, from Edmond, Oklahoma!
