Design Star Season 6 finalist Kevin Grace says he was inspired to pursue interior design after watching it on TV, is into mid-century, “cheap,” and repurposing. A dude after my own heart! Let’s check out the work of this fashion merchandise director and window dresser from Chicago:
Love the table, the chair’s cute, and I love that the footstool is green pony hair…beyond that, it’s hard to get much out of this photo. I don’t love the footstool with that particular chair.
Feels clutter-y.
Interesting individual elements, but everything as a whole feels hodge-podge and cluttered.
While this tells us something about Kevin (that he likes mid-century), it’s not exactly a portfolio piece. Anyone can get on Etsy and order a bunch of miniature chairs and pop them on a shelf. Seeing what’s around this collection would tell us more about his styling and design skills.
Cute.
This is more like it! Cool vintage lamp, cute pillows, everything’s arranged in a fun way.
KEVIN GRACE ON A BUMPER STICKER: It’s going to be hard for someone without any professional experience in interior design to come off as the voice of authority on the subject. If he can create a compelling store window, it would seem logical that he could also create a visually appealing room…but since his portfolio doesn’t extend beyond his own home, I’m wishing they’d cast him on First Time Design instead of Design Star.
Coming soon: Designer finalist Leslie Ezelle from the Lone Star State!
I really enjoyed your take on things. I think you made some good and very funny points. I am looking forward to future feedback. Thanks for the smile, and I will try to do better next time. 🙂 kg
