Once in a while, we are fortunate enough to work on a “surprise design.” What’s a surprise design? Similarly to many of the home decorating shows you see on TV, it involves a client who stays in the dark about the design of the space. That’s right—they turn their credit card over to us and opt out of all of the decorating decisions, so they can enjoy a surprise “reveal” at the end. This requires a lot of trust in our abilities and usually involves returning clients who were pleased with the outcome of previous remodeling or redecorating projects.

Such was the case with this guest bedroom—the last untouched-by-Room-Fu room in Katie’s house in Dripping Springs. Katie had a piece of art she wanted to build the room around and this painting of Enchanted Rock (over the bed) provided the perfect source of inspiration.

Armed with a color palette drawn from the painting, we selected a trellis print duvet cover and coordinating shams in white and navy. We flank the bed with modern white lamps, paired with walnut and white nightstands.

Golden yellow decorative pillows and a hot pink (one of Katie’s favorite colors) headboard provide unexpected pops of color on the bed.

Gauzy curtains with navy pom-poms further that eclectic feeling.

We’re very grateful to Katie, for having faith in us and really going for it!
